When I was around eighteen or nineteen, still a student endlessly browsing through stacks of fashion magazines and reference books, my eyes caught an image of Ralph Lauren—dressed in a tailored jacket, exuding an effortless confidence. The design was unlike anything I had ever seen before. That moment, I later realized, was my first encounter with the Teba jacket. The memory of that discovery stayed with me, and years later, it became the starting point for what would evolve into N.YORKE—a jacket blending American and European sensibilities through the lens of NICENESS.

In 1990s America, tweed enjoyed a brief but vivid resurgence. From Ralph Lauren to countless other brands, tweed jackets in eccentric patterns and expressive designs appeared across collections. There’s something about that era—the playfulness, the tension between refinement and rebellion—that still feels right today.

The Teba jacket itself traces its origins to British hunting wear, later gaining popularity among Spain’s upper class. Its defining feature, a collar with a stand band rather than traditional lapels, became the nucleus of our design. Preserving that detail, we focused on how to reinterpret its silhouette and fabric in a way that felt unmistakably modern and our own.

The outer fabric is a bespoke tweed, woven from a blend of cotton-linen mélange yarns and merino Shetland wool, forming a subtle “N” motif within the weave. Produced on a dobby loom, the textile carries a slightly timeworn charm—a nod to the fabrics favored by British country gentlemen.

For the lining, we used two contrasting materials: a smooth, lustrous fabric in areas requiring mobility, and a brushed textile for warmth elsewhere—a construction detail often found in heritage French tailoring. The multicolored deadstock stripe used in the sleeve lining adds a pop of retro charm, harmonizing beautifully with this season’s theme. It’s a small but defining accent, breathing life into the jacket’s otherwise classic mood.

The story of this piece is one of cultural flow—born from British tradition, cherished in Spain, and reimagined through the American lens. N.YORKE is our interpretation of that lineage, a NICENESS-style Teba jacket built on reverence and reinvention. The same spirit extends to the matching trousers, N.SELWAY.
